Approved Document L1A (2006 edition)
Conservation of fuel and power in new dwellings
|
The new Approved Document L1A establishes a single compliance route based on Target Carbon Dioxide emission rates. The new regulations require the submission of a checklist that demonstrates that compliance has been met against 5 defined criteria: 1. The Dwellings Emission Rate (DER) is not greater than the Target Emissions Rate (TER). 2. The Performance of the building fabric and fixed services should be no worse than design limits. |
 |
3. The Dwelling has appropriate passive control measures to limit the effect of solar gains on internal temperatures in summer. 4. The performance of the dwelling, as built, is consistent with the DER. 5. The necessary provisions for energy efficient operation of the dwelling are put in place.
SAP 2005 - Standard Assesment of Procedure for Energy Rating of Dwellings SAP 2005 defines the carbon emissions calculation methodology required when generating the DER, TER and the compliance checklist. Local authorities are authorised to accept calculations from persons registered by FAERO Ltd, BRE Certification Ltd or other persons deemed by Building Control Bodies as suitably competent.
BRE Scotland, on behalf of DEFRA, administer the SAP 2005 software approval scheme and a list of programs will be obtainable from them. Our BuildDesk Energy Design (incorporating SAP 1.0) has been approved by the BRE.
BR443 Conventions for U-value Calculations (2006 edition) One of the second tier documents referred to in the new Part L document, is the new BR 443 Conventions for U-value calculations (2006 Edition).
