Dwellings - Technical Guidance Document L
There are 3 alternative methods for showing compliance with the "Technical Guidance Document L: Conservation of Fuel & Energy in Dwellings (2002 edition):

- the Elemental Method,
- Overall Heat Loss Method and
- Heat Energy Rating Method (HER).

The HER of a dwelling is the measure of the total annual energy usage for space & water heating. The calculated HER of a dwelling
has to achieve a level related to its area/volume ratio, as given in the Technical Guidance Document.
  


  
Non-dwellings - Technical Guidance Document L

There are 2 alternative methods for showing compliance with the "Technical Guidance Document L: Conservation of Fuel & Energy (buildings other than dwelings ) 1997 edition:
 
- the Elemental Method, and
- overall Heat Loss Method.
  
New proposals to upgrade the thermal performance of insulation standards for Non-Residential Buildings are currently under review and a consultation process has been established. (Draft Building Regulations 2004).  The amended document for non-residential buildings will be introduced during 2005.
