Dwellings There are 2 alternative methods for showing compliance with this the "Technical Booklet F: Conservation of Fuel and Power in Dwellings (1998 edition)": - the Elemental Method and - the Target U value Method. In addition to meeting these compliances, all applications for all new build dwellings are also required to include an energy rating calculation in accordance with the "Standard Assessment Procedure" (SAP 2001).

 Non-dwellings Non-dwellings are subdivided into the following building groups:
- residential buildings - places of assembly - offices & shops - industrial and storage buildings
There are 3 alternative methods for showing compliance with the "Technical Booklet F: Conservation of Fuel & Power in Buildings other than Dwellings (1998 edition)":
- the Elemental Method, - the Calculation Method, and - the Energy Use Method.
 New regulations in Northern Ireland New Regulations will be published in August 2006, to come into effect in November 2006. These new regulations will be adaptations of the Approved Documents Part L that currently apply in England and Wales. The requirements will be set out in two new Technical Booklets:
