Environmental policies

  1. We are committed to preventing pollution and, as required by international environmental standards, we will abide by all environmental legislation. We see this as the minimum requirement for any business and look to exceed minimum requirements where possible.
  2. The largest direct environmental impact of BuildDesk Limited is from the impacts of travel. We will assess the need for travel and, when travel is necessary, aim to use public transport wherever practical. As part of a wider international company, we often need to travel by air. We will aim to minimise the number of meetings that need physical attendance by utilising remote communication wherever practical.
  3. Our direct energy use is typical of an office based company.  To reduce energy use, we operate a ‘switch-off’ policy, seek equipment with low energy consumption and seek to influence our landlords to provide energy efficient buildings.
  4. We aim to reduce the use of material resources to the minimum needed to achieve our objectives.  We minimise the use of plastic and memory storage media by encouraging our clients to download software, rather than have physical media. Similarly, we promote the use of electronic manuals, rather than printed copies, to reduce paper. We also use duplex printing and recycle paper wherever practical.
  5. Our largest potential environmental impact comes from the benefits accrued through improved environmental performance by our customers and the buildings that they design and improve.  We aim to assist customers to choose energy efficient and environmentally sustainable options in their activities.
  6. In 2009 we will use our systems to improve communication of best practice for reducing the impact of travel.
  7. We will make this policy available to all stakeholders and review it annually to continually improve environmental performance. The policy was agreed with all staff and new staff will be trained on it during their induction process.
